Five army soldiers were killed and several injured after their vehicle plunged into a gorge near a forward post along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

According to reports, the Army vehicle en-route from Nilam Headquarters to Balnoi Ghora Post met with an accident near Ghora Post. Soon after getting information, a Quick Reaction Team rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation.

“Ten soldiers were injured while five of them suffered critical injuries, who later succumbed to their injuries,” the officials said, adding that a total of 18 soldiers were onboard the ill-fated vehicle when the accident took place. The vehicle plunged into 150 feet deep gorge.

Army’s White Knight Corps expressed deepest condolences on the tragic loss of soldiers. “All ranks of #WhiteKnightCorps extend their deepest condolences on the tragic loss of five brave soldiers in a vehicle accident during operational duty in the #Poonch sector. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the injured personnel are receiving medical care,” White Knight Corps in a post on X said.
