Maharashtra, Jharkhand Assembly elections

The Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections are scheduled for today, with polling set to start at 7 am and conclude at 6 pm, according to PTI. The counting of votes will take place on Saturday (November 23).

Voting will take place in a single phase in Maharashtra that has 288 Assembly seats while this will be the second phase in Jharkhand having 81 seats. In Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena-NCP ‘Mahayuti’ alliance is looking forward to retaining power whereas the ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ bloc of Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (SP) is seeking a comeback.

In Jharkhand, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government of the INDIA bloc is seeking a second straight term.

Indian Army Chief to visit Nepal

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi will embark on a four-day visit to Nepal starting November 20 to explore ways to expand defence and strategic ties between the two countries and review the evolving regional security situation.

In Kathmandu, General Dwivedi will be conferred the honorary rank of “General of the Nepal Army” by Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel in continuation of an age-old tradition that first started in 1950, reflecting the strong ties between the two militaries, reported news agency PTI. Nepal is important for India in the context of its overall strategic interests in the region.

Bypolls in Kerala, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh

By-polls in 14 Assembly constituencies across the three states will take place today. Earlier, it was scheduled to take place on November 13 but the Election Commission (EC) had delayed it after political parties including BJP, Congress, BSP and RLD requested a change in the polling date for certain Assembly constituencies.

The 14 constituencies affected are Palakkad in Kerala, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC), Gidderbaha and Barnala in Punjab and Khair (SC), Meerapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Karhal, Sishamau, Phulpur, Katehari and Majhawan in Uttar Pradesh, reported India Today.

SpaceX to launch Starship for sixth time

SpaceX is gearing up for the sixth test flight of the Starship rocket system. The 30-minute launch will take place at 3:30 am IST from SpaceX’s Starbase facility in South Texas.

One of the main objectives of this mission is to replicate the successful mid-air catch of the Super Heavy booster, accomplished during the fifth test flight last month. SpaceX plans to recover the booster using the launch tower’s ‘chopstick’ arms about seven minutes after liftoff.
