Dr. Niten Chandra, secretary DESW visits Kolkata to Enhance Welfare Measures for Ex-Servicemen in West Bengal

Dr Niten Chandra, IAS, Secretary, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW), Ministry of Defence, along with Brig. D.S. Basera, Secretary, Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB), visited Kolkata on November 17-18, 2024. During the visit, they interacted with key stakeholders to review and strengthen welfare initiatives for ex-servicemen in West Bengal.

The officials met with Lt. Gen. R.C. Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Dr. Manoj Pant, Chief Secretary of West Bengal, and the State Head of Common Service Centre (CSC). They were also joined by Brig. Rajeev Kapur, Additional Director General, Directorate Resettlement Zone (DRZ) East, and representatives of ex-servicemen (ESMs).

Discussions focused on streamlining welfare schemes, enhancing digital services for ESMs, and improving access to benefits through CSCs. The collaborative engagement underscored the commitment of both the Ministry of Defence and the state government in addressing the needs of the ex-servicemen community.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with all stakeholders expressing optimism for resettlement of ESM and further strengthening of welfare measures for ex-servicemen in West Bengal.
