The P-7 Parachute System, designed and developed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), is engineered to facilitate rapid and safe delivery of heavy payloads, supporting operational needs of the Indian Armed Forces.
Gliders India Limited (Ordnance Parachute Factory), based in Kanpur, has manufactured this advanced parachute system, which boasts the capacity to airdrop loads of up to 9.5 tons from IL-76 aircraft at altitudes reaching four kilometres.
Primarily, the P-7 system empowers the Indian Army to swiftly deploy critical equipment, such as Light Field Guns and Jeeps, directly into border and high-conflict zones, enhancing their mobility and operational readiness.
Following successful completion of the General Staff Evaluation, the P-7 system has been inducted into the Indian Armed Forces, solidifying its role in defence operations.
The Army has already placed an order with GIL (OPF), Kanpur, for 146 units of the P-7 Heavy Drop Parachute System.
