Bangladesh’s army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has held a virtual meeting with Indian army chief General Upendra Dwivedi.

The two military chiefs spoke on a video call, according to reports from Indian media on Wednesday.

A post regarding the meeting was shared on the Indian Army’s official X handle around 11:45am on the same day.

The Indian army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information, ADGPI, shared a picture of the video call and said they exchanged views on issues of mutual interests, including bilateral defence cooperation.

According to India’s news outlet The Print, this marks their first interaction following the political change in Bangladesh, after the former prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India in August.

However, army officers remained tight-lipped about the context of the meeting, and no further details were shared regarding the situation that led to the video call, it said.

The Indian Express also covered the story, highlighting that this was the first conversation between the two army chiefs within three months of the political upheaval in Bangladesh.
