Unmanned aerial systems are poised to become a fundamental component of future military operations, both in the air and on the ground. Following a series of unsuccessful attempts to develop indigenous unmanned aerial surveillance and combat technologies, India has entered into a significant agreement with the American company General Atomics for the procurement of 31 Sea and Sky Guardian Predator MQ-9B drones, valued at approximately $3.9 billion.
