VASCO: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted a two-day Coastal Security Exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ 02/24 along the coastline of Goa and Maharashtra.

The Sagar Kavach exercise was conducted in coordination with the Indian Navy, Customs, Coastal Security Police, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Mormugao Port Authority (MPA), Directorate of Fisheries and the Captain of Ports.

According to the Coast Guard, comprehensive coastal security exercise, aims at strengthening and enhancing the coastal and maritime security of our nation. The multi-agency exercise took place along the entire coastline, engaging a range of maritime agencies and stakeholders.

The exercise will simulate realistic scenarios to test and improve our collective response to maritime security threats, such as infiltration, smuggling, piracy, and natural disasters. Key participating agencies included i.e. Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Marine Police, Customs, Port Authorities and the Directorate of Fisheries. This joint exercise demonstrates our commitment to safeguarding our coastline and protecting the nation’s maritime interests, it stated.

During the exercise, various drills and scenarios were conducted including simulated terrorist threats, to revalidate SOPs and evolve synergy amongst agencies to achieve 100 per cent effective patrolling along coastline to identify gaps and interdict infiltrators to prevent landing/ attack on VAs/VPs and various State vessels. This exercise aimed to undertake awareness and information sharing amongst various stake holder, and formed a unified coastal security communication plan.
