Bhopal: The 82nd Raising Day of the Corps of EME of the Indian Army was celebrated all over the country. The event was commemorated at 3 EME Centre in Bairagarh with military customs and traditions. On this occasion, along with ex-servicemen, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was organised at the War Memorial of 3 EME Centre to pay homage to those who made supreme sacrifices for the nation.Thereafter, a special Sainik Sammelan was attended by over 1,700 EME personnel of the Bhopal military station, including Agniveer trainees of the Centre and the Defence Civilians.
The Raising Day is a significant occasion for the personnel of the Corps of EME, as it provides an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the nation and the Indian Army. 3 EME Centre symbolises the Army’s motto ‘Service Before Self’.
Since its raising in 1962, it was closely linked to Bhopal’s fabric, and both have grown manifold, complementing each other. 3 EME Centre has trained over 75,000 recruits, including the Agniveers, and turned them into soldier-craftsmen who have proved their mettle in all fields, be it military operations, aid to civil authorities, disaster relief, or sports.
The people of Bhopal are witnesses to the fact that whenever the situation demanded, 3 EME Centre came to the forefront in assistance. When tragedy struck on the night of Dec 2, 1984, at Union Carbide, rescue teams from 3 EME Centre were amongst the first responders to evacuate residents around the factory.
A sizeable strength of ex-servicemen from EME have settled down in and around Bhopal after retirement, making it their home. Through them, 3 EME Centre has further blended into the vibe of the city. To celebrate the 82nd Raising Day of the Corps of EME, 3 EME Centre organised a series of events to honour its serving and retired personnel. The Centre has also maintained a practice of excellence in sports. The sportspersons of 3 EME Centre have made the country proud at several international and national events by achieving podium positions.
Since the inception of the Agnipath Scheme, three batches of Agniveers passed out from 3 EME Centre, and training of the fourth batch consisting of 799 Agniveers is in progress, the army stated.
