VAGATOR: The vast majority of Goans who have been opposing controversy ridden EDM festivals in December 2024 would feel vindicated by the news that the largest ever cocaine haul in Delhi – worth more than Rs 6,000 crore – was meant to be distributed at four big upcoming music concerts in Goa, Mumbai and Delhi.

However Narco cops O Heraldo spoke to on Thursday night, had a crucial take on these seizures.

“This is the time of the year when big drug busts are expected in the country because cartels now operate in sync with the time of the year. Most of the drugs seized end up being used by clients visiting high end clubs in Goa’s coastal belt and other Indian cities,” stated a senior NCB official on condition of anonymity.

“Our team in Goa caught a Russian last year and investigations are continuing. It is up to the Delhi police to share inputs with us, if they think it is necessary. But what they are doing is simply great,” added the officer.

The Delhi Police Special Cell raid on Wednesday yielded 562 kg grade A Colombian cocaine along with 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana.

“Drugs are one ingredient of such festivals. Normal people don’t go for such shows. Our Goan music is so vibrant. The news that the drugs caught in Delhi were bound for Goa just proves what our elected representatives try to deny,” claimed Alex Noronha, strong votary against EDM festivals like Sunburn from Anjuna.

The Narcotics Control of Bureau (NCB) and Indian Navy, in a joint operation last year, seized 2,500 kg of top grade methamphetamine in Gujarat.

“I have already put the news of the drug haul in Delhi on my Whatsapp status. We are sure to fight till the end to see that a a particular EDM festival will not take place in Goa. This is a festival that is supported by a Chief Minister and his MLA. The people’s will, will prevail,” guaranteed Sharad Gad, former Sarpanch of Camurlim.

“It is common knowledge that EDM festivals and similar parties promote drugs. We love music in south Goa but not noise. We do not want the bad of the north to slip here,” says Leopold Dias, local activist from Quittol

“Goa has been a hot spot of drugs for many years and will continue to be as long as the authorities turn a blind eye. Goa is now being guided by the judiciary but we the people need to get up,” reasons Desiree Fernandes from Vagator.
