Dehradun, 30 Sep: Major General GD Bakshi (Retd) called on Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at Raj Bhavan, here, on Monday.
On this occasion, various issues related to internal and external national security were discussed between them. During the meeting, the Agniveer Yojana was also discussed. The Governor described this scheme as an important step for the Indian Army, especially for a military dominated state like Uttarakhand, where there has been a long tradition of valour and sacrifice, and the youth have had the passion to serve the country by joining the army.
On this occasion, the Governor appreciated the quality of training and ability of the soldiers coming under the Agniveer Yojana. He said that the training of Agniveers is being done at the highest level, and this scheme will prove to be helpful in filling the armed forces with youthful energy. During the meeting, they discussed the schemes being run by the Indian Army and the Central and State Governments for the welfare of soldiers and their families.
They also shared golden memories of the National Defence College, anti-terrorist operations and foreign tours undertaken together. They emphasised on national security and further strengthening military power in the mountainous areas and said that it is necessary to thwart every nefarious attempt of the enemies in these sensitive areas.
