Poonch, Sept 28: Saqlain Tariq, an athlete from the border district of Poonch, has made his mark on the international stage by being declared the ‘Best Setter’ at the 38th World Military Games in Iran. Representing India in the Volleyball discipline, Saqlain helped his team secure a silver medal, impressing audiences with his exceptional skills and leadership on the court.
Saqlain, who serves in the Indian Navy, is a former captain of the Indian national volleyball team and a professional spiker. His performance at the World Military Games solidifies his reputation as one of the country’s top volleyball players.
Saqlain’s achievements are significant, as he is the first spiker from Jammu & Kashmir to be selected for the Indian national team. He also holds the distinction of being the only professional player from the Union Territory to lead an independent team, Delhi Toofan, in national competitions.
This latest accolade adds to his growing list of accomplishments, further establishing his role as a trailblazer for athletes from the border regions of India.
