Odisha-based innovative deep-tech drone startup BonV Aero scripted history in high-altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) technology by completing a hover flight test at a height of 19,024 feet carrying a payload of 30kg.

The company, which supplies heavy-lift UAVs to the Indian Army, conducted the drone flying test at Umling La Pass in Ladakh, which is the highest motorable mountain pass in the world, and set a new world record.

To put this in perspective, the Army’s Cheetah helicopter, which is capable of effectively operating in high-altitude terrains, can carry only a payload of 20 kg.

Co-founder and CEO of the company Satyabrata Satapathy said the world record is a moment of pride for the company and its employees.

“We have been working closely with the Indian Army to develop an UAV platform that addresses their logistical challenges in high-altitude regions. This test reinforces our commitment to keep pushing the boundaries of aerial mobility solutions for our defence forces,” he added.

Co-founder and CTO of the company Abinash Sahoo said it is only the beginning of what UAVs can achieve at high altitudes.

Major clients of the company include the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Air Force. The company claims that its products are designed to operate effectively in extreme conditions.

Earlier, after securing Rs 14 crore funding after its victory in a TV reality show in the US, Satapathy had said drones made by the company had demonstrated the capability to operate at high altitudes, above 10,000 feet, in challenging environments.
