In a heartening gesture aimed at fostering stronger community relations and encouraging local talent, soldiers of the Indian Army stationed in Manipur organized a friendly volleyball match with the youth of Leikocheng village in Imphal East district on September 24, 2024.

The initiative, designed to boost morale and inspire local young people, saw enthusiastic participation from both the villagers and the Army. More than 40 villagers, including 25 school children from Leikocheng High School, gathered to witness the event.

The match aimed to promote teamwork, build camaraderie, and strengthen the bond between the armed forces and the local population. The game was a lively affair, with the young boys of the village engaging in a spirited contest against the Army personnel, highlighting their sportsmanship and unity.

The Indian Army’s efforts to revive interest in sports and cultivate a sense of community through such events were met with appreciation by the villagers. The initiative also served as a platform for local youth to showcase their skills and interact closely with the Army, further bridging the gap between civilians and military personnel.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence, covering Manipur, Nagaland, and Southern Arunachal Pradesh, stated that such events are instrumental in building trust and fostering a sense of belonging within the community. The Army remains committed to supporting local initiatives that empower and engage the youth.

The event is part of the Army’s broader outreach program to strengthen relationships with communities across the region, while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among the younger generation.

This match marked another successful step in the ongoing efforts to enhance the spirit of cooperation between the local population and the armed forces in the region.(PR)
