NEW DELHI: Army troops arrested a 35-year-old Pakistani intruder along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district on Sunday, according to security officials.
As per the news agency PTI, the infiltrator was identified as Hassam Shahzad from Tarinote village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He was caught early in the morning by troops in the Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar sub-division.
Officials reported that Shahzad was discovered hiding in a burrow near a river about 100 meters inside Indian territory, close to the Bravo check area. An area domination patrol party located him.
The officials also mentioned that Rs 1800 in Pakistani currency, an identity card, and two mobile Sim cards were found on Shahzad. During preliminary questioning, Shahzad claimed he had crossed the LoC by mistake.
Earlier in the intervening night of 21-22 September, the Border Security Force prevented an infiltration attempt along the international border in the RS Pura sector of Jammu and discovered a stash of weapons.
According to the BSF, the seized weapons comprised an AK 47 rifle, two pistols, and magazines containing 4 and 9 mm rounds.
