New Delhi, Sep 13: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy achieved consecutive successes with the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM), following two successful flight tests off the Odisha coast, ministry of defence said in a press release.
The second test was conducted on September 13, 2024, at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, where the missile intercepted a high-speed aerial target simulating a sea-skimming threat at low altitude, demonstrating its precision and operational readiness.
This test followed another successful launch on September 12, 2024, where the missile similarly neutralised a low-altitude target. Both tests showcased the missile’s reliability and validated recent upgrades made to the system.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended DRDO, the Indian Navy, and all involved teams for the successful tests, stating that the missile’s modern technologies will enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces. Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, also congratulated the teams on their achievement with the VLSRSAM system.
