Indian Navy appoints Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, AVSM as Controller Personnel Services

The Indian Navy has appointed Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, AVSM as the Controller Personnel Services (CPS) on Tuesday September 3, 2024. Prior to taking charge as Controller Personnel Services (CPS), he served as the Commandant of Indian Naval Academy.

Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, AVSM is a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and National Defence College, New Delhi. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1989. There have been multiple appointments for the flag officer, both afloat and ashore. An expert in ‘Gunnery and Missiles’, he was part of the INS Delhi commissioning crew and completed all of his specialist tenures onboard the frontline Guided Missile Destroyer. He has also served as the Executive Officer of the Landing Platform Dock INS Jalashwa, Seaward Defence Patrol Vessel and Guided Missile Vessel. 

In addition to this, he has commanded Anti-Submarine Patrol Vessel INS Ajay, Guided Missile Corvette INS Khanjar and Guided Missile Frigate INS Shivalik. He serves as the Training Commander at the Naval Academy and the Command Plans Officer at the Headquarters Eastern Naval Command.

He was India’s defence adviser to the Republic of Singapore with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of the Philippines. He also held the position of Directing Staff at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Sri Lanka. 

During his tenure as Commodore (Naval Plans) from 2018 to 2020, his charter of responsibility included drawing up Indian Navy’s Perspective, Financial and Acquisition Plans. He was given the title of Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Staff Requirements) at the Naval Headquarters after being promoted to the Flag Rank in February 2020. In this role, he was in charge of capability development and formulating the Combat Policy of the Indian Navy. In his capacity as the Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, he ensured a high tempo of operations and optimum preparedness with a sharp focus on ‘Ordnance on Target’.
