The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, conducted a joint operation named “OP YARBUG” in Yarbug, Baramulla on December 21. Acting on specific intelligence, security forces established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) and apprehended two suspects.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed via their X handle, “Two suspected individuals have been apprehended along with recovery of one pistol, two hand grenades & other war-like stores.” Investigations are currently underway.
This operation follows a recent incident on December 11, where security forces recovered and destroyed an improvised explosive device (IED) on the Baramulla-Handwara road in Kupwara. The Chinar Corps lauded the efforts, saying, “Indian Army remains resolute in its commitment to keep Kashmir terror-free.”
Operation Chanpura: Arms and Ammunition Seized in Bandipora
On Saturday, a joint operation, “OP CHANPURA,” was carried out in Chanpura, Bandipora, by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Based on actionable intelligence, an MVCP was set up, leading to the apprehension of one individual. Security forces recovered a pistol, a hand grenade, and other war-like stores. The Chinar Corps announced on X, “Further investigation by Police is in progress.”
Arrests and Arms Recovery in Sopore
In another operation on December 21, a joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF apprehended two suspects in the Dangiwacha area of Sopore.
The suspects, identified as Rashid Ahmad Bhat and Sajed Ismail Haru from Arwani Bijbehara, were intercepted during a naka (checkpoint) operation. Security forces recovered arms, ammunition, and mobile phones from their possession.
Police have registered an FIR against the suspects under relevant sections, and further investigations are ongoing.
NIA Chargesheets Two in Arms Seizure Case
In a separate development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet against two individuals in an arms and explosives seizure case linked to the banned Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM).
The chargesheet names Waheed Ul Zahoor, the driver of a vehicle from which explosives were recovered, and Mubashir Maqbool Mir, a conspirator providing financial assistance to HM. Investigations revealed that both suspects had connections with HM handlers based in Pakistan.
The recent operations and arrests highlight the sustained efforts of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir to combat terrorism and ensure regional stability. The Indian Army’s proactive stance and close coordination with other agencies underscore their commitment to keeping the valley terror-free.
