Two young Army officers were assaulted and one of their two women friends was allegedly gangraped by a group of six men who attacked them in the early hours of Wednesday near Jam Gate along the Mhow-Mandleshwar Road in Madhya Pradesh.

Police said two of the six assailants had been arrested and a search was on for the others.

DIG Nimish Agrawal said the two officers from the Mhow cantonment town had gone out on a night trip and were sitting in a car with their friends when six men showed up, surrounded and assaulted them.

He said one of the officers and a woman were detained by the men and the other two were told to bring 10 lakh rupees.

The officer, who was told to go and get the money, informed his seniors after he reached a spot within the mobile phone network range. By the time his colleagues arrived, the assailants had fled.

Police said the four victims were brought to Mhow Civil Hospital for medical examination around 6.30 am.

Indore Rural SP Hitika Vasal told The Indian Express: “Around 2.30 am, the officers were at this isolated stretch near an Army firing range when they were accosted by the accused persons.”

She said a case had been registered under BNS sections related to loot, dacoity, rape, and under the Arms Act.

“We arrested two men. One of them has a case of loot registered against him in 2016. This was not an organised gang. They saw these young people who had gathered at a night spot and decided to attack them. One person also had a pistol on him,” Vasal said.

She said the men asked one of the officers and a woman to get money and when they had left, the incident of gangrape allegedly took place.

“The officer reached out to his Commanding Officer and the local police station was informed. We reached the spot within 10 minutes. After seeing the police vehicle, the accused fled,” Vasal said.
